Toddler Suffers Major Injuries after Two Vehicles Collide at King and Niles Streets

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 4, 2023) – A two-year-old child was severely injured in a two-vehicle accident at King Street and Niles Street in east Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. on April 2. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, a sedan was traveling westbound on Niles street when it collided with the pickup truck that was crossing the same street after stopping at the intersection with King Street.
 
The pickup truck rolled several times before coming to rest on the south sidewalk on Niles. The sedan sheared a utility pole at its base before stopping.
 
First responders found the toddler seated in a forward-facing child safety seat in the sedan with major injuries.
 
The child is currently being treated at a nearby hospital. The other drivers and passengers involved sustained minor injuries.
 
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Police asked anyone with further information to call them at 661-327-7111.
