Military Plane Crashes near Shelter Island Sending Two Pilots to Hospital
SAN DIEGO BAY, CA (February 15, 2025) – Two pilots were requested after a military plane crash near Shelter Island Wednesday morning on February 12.
According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the military fighter jet with two people on board crashed into the San Diego Bay around 10:15 a.m.
A video showed the jet appeared to nosedive at high speed into the water.
Both pilots had ejected safely before the crash. Both were conscious when they were pulled out of the water.
Rescuers transferred them to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection boat and transported both to UC San Diego Medical Center.
The extent of their injuries was not immediately available, but the military said their condition was stable.
At this time, the cause for the crash is still under investigation.
