2 Dead After SUV Crashes off Studebaker Road into Water in Long Beach

 
LONG BEACH, CA (January 23, 2024) — Two men died after a car crashed into the water of a nearby canal near Studebaker Road and Loynes Drive.
 
According to the Long Beach Fire Department, the single-car crash happened around 6:20 p.m. Sunday. For an unknown reason, a driver in a 2004 GMC Yukon was moving northbound on Studebaker Road at a high rate of speed. Subsequently, after weaving in and out of traffic, the driver lost control and crashed into a bridge support. As a result, the car burst into flames, veered off the bridge and plunged into the Los Cerritos Channel below.
 
Following the accident, Long Beach Fire Department officers arrived to find the vehicle submerged 10 feet in water. After pulling the vehicle out, they uncovered the driver deceased inside the wreckage. They also found the passenger in the water, a man in his 30s, and rushed him to a hospital where he died later.
 
Authorities did not release their names or the ultimate cause of the accident. However, an investigation into this crash will identify the factors. Those with information can call detectives at (562) 570-7355.
