2 Men Die, 3 Hurt, Metro Train Strikes Car on 24th Street in Los Angeles

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 21, 2023) — Two men died after a Metro train hit a car on 24th Street near Long Beach Avenue Monday.
 
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fatal accident happened around 6:15 p.m. at 1629 E. 24th St. For unknown reasons, a driver carrying four passengers made a left turn in front of an oncoming Metro train and a collision occurred. The Metro Blue Line train and the vehicle were heading southbound when the car turned in front of the train.
 
Shortly after, Los Angeles Fire personnel responded and found two males trapped inside. One was beyond medical help, but the other was extricated immediately. Another passenger in the vehicle suffered grave injuries and died at the scene. Officials did not release the two victims’ names.
 
The driver, as well as two passengers in the vehicle, was able to exit the mangled car on his own.
 
Following the crash, the 125 uninjured passengers on board sought buses as an alternative transportation to their destination. No other information on this crash was available, but an ongoing investigation should confirm what happened, such as if the train crossing signals were activated.
