Fatal Barstow Wrong-Way Accident on 15 Freeway near L Street

 
BARSTOW, CA (September 5, 2023) – Two people died in a wrong-way accident on 15 Freeway, Thursday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on August 31, at about 6:00 p.m. A northbound dark Mazda CX5 was reportedly traveling in the southbound lanes when it collided with a semi-truck near L Street.
 
The semi-truck driver swerved in a attempt to avoid the Mazda but collided with the guardrail.
 
The impact of the crash caused the cab of the semi to catch fire. A few moments later, flames fully engulfed the vehicle.
 
Responders later confirmed that two SUV occupants died at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.
 
As per reports, the semi-truck was hauling 38,000 pounds of chicken. Affected lanes were closed for clearing operations and an investigation.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident.
