Palmdale Hit-and-Run, Anthony Cruz and Sergio Martinez Die at the Scene
PALMDALE, CA (March 10, 2021) — The hit-and-run driver who killed two teen cousins on January 30 turned himself in to police on Friday morning.
Both Palmdale residents 18-year-old Sergio Martinez and his cousin, 17-year-old Anthony Cruz, died at the scene.
As of Friday, police charged 34-year-old William Alexander Marquez with vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.
The crash happened around 10:22 p.m. near 10th Street West and Avenue O-8, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the coroner’s office.
Martinez and Cruz were in a dark gray 2018 Honda Civic traveling westbound on Avenue O-8. However, a black 2015 Chrysler 200 ran a red light at Avenue O-8 while northbound on 10th Street West, according to a news release from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. As a result, the Chrysler T-boned the Honda.
Marquez, the Chrysler’s driver, fled the scene on foot before police arrived. For over a month after the accident, police could not locate Marquez. However, he turned himself into the authorities on March 5.
