Panga Boat Capsizes Off Coast near Seacoast Drive Killing 2 People

 
IMPERIAL BEACH, CA (November 27, 2022) – Two people died after a suspected smuggling boat capsized off Imperial Beach near Seacoast Drive and Cortez Avenue.
 
The vessel capsized around 6:00 a.m. Saturday on November 26. According to reports, the panga boat with 10 people on board had tipped over. Seven of the people on board reached the shore and taken into custody.
 
Imperial Beach lifeguards pulled two people from the water, both died in the accident.
 
Three people, one adult and two minors, were taken to a local hospital.
 
At the time the accident, there were several surfers in the water. They saw the people in trouble and started to rescue them.
 
The Coast Guard, San Diego Fire-Rescue, San Diego Sheriff and Border Patrol personnel were at the scene.
 
Border Patrol is investigating the accident as they suspect this to be a smuggling attempt.
