Santa Clarita Bus Crash on 5 Freeway Injures 2 People

SANTA CLARITA, CA (June 03, 2021) — Two people sustained injuries in a bus collision on 5 Freeway Sunday morning in Santa Clarita.

Officials of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said the crash happened at about 7:40 a.m. A transit bus and another vehicle collided on the southbound side of the 5 Freeway near Gavin Canyon. The said area is located between Calgrove Boulevard and the Newhall Pass interchange.

According to fire officials, two people had minor injuries. It was not immediately clear, however, whether they were occupants of the bus or the other vehicle. There was also no information available on whether the two required medical transport.

Meanwhile, a SigAlert for the number 4 and number 5 lanes of the southbound 5 Freeway took effect during the duration of the emergency response. It was lifted after about an hour.

Trucks, buses, and other large vehicles are harder to maneuver, have more blind spots, and take a longer time to decelerate. As such, drivers of these vehicles need to be extra vigilant and observe safety at all times. Avoid distractions, know your blind spots, and keep a safe braking distance. Furthermore, buckle up for safety, always observe the speed limit, and be aware of dangerous tailgaters. Equally important, keep your equipment properly maintained to reduce the chance of breakdowns.
