2 CHP Officers Sustain Injuries after Hit by Suspected Drunk Driver on 215 Freeway in San Bernardino

 
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (April 25, 2023) – Two CHP officers were injured in a DUI crash on 215 Freeway in San Bernardino early Sunday morning on April 23.
 
The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. at the University Parkway exit. According to the CHP, the two officers were at the scene of an earlier three-vehicle crash. They were seated within the patrol car with emergency lights activated.
 
At the same time, Alejandro Marcelo Vicente of Los Angeles was driving an SUV at an unknown speed approaching the lane closure. He entered the closure and struck the patrol car.
 
As a result of the crash, the officers suffered non-life threatening injuries.
 
A video showed the crushed rear-end of the patrol car and the SUV with severe front-end damage.
 
Police arrested Vicente on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation. They urged witnesses to call them at 909-383-4247.
