19-Year-Old Man Killed in Car Accident on 5 Freeway near Basilone Road [San Clemente, CA]

Car Crashes into Trailer in Fatal Accident on 5 Freeway in San Clemente

 
SAN CLEMENTE, CA (September 27, 2021) – Police confirmed that a teenager died in a car accident on 5 Freeway on September 22.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Basilone Road around 4:55 AM.
 
Based on an initial report, the victim was driving a red Hyundai sedan in the 4th lane of the freeway at the time of the crash. At the same time, a 47-year-old man from Arleta was driving a tractor-trailer combination in the same lane. Due to unknown reasons, the Hyundai rear-ended the back of the tractor-trailer.
 
As a result, the teenager suffered serious injuries in the incident. Crews airlifted him to Scripps Memorial Hospital, where he ultimately died. Authorities identified him as a 19-year-old man from Simi Valley.
 
Also, the crash affected the 4th lane of the freeway. Police say they are not sure if alcohol or drugs contributed to the deadly crash. However, they ask anyone with information to contact the California Highway Patrol at 760-643-3400. In addition, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
