18-Year-Old Savannah Cooper Detained, Russell Webster, Rachel Webster Hurt in Deadly DUI Crash on Highway 49 near Deer Creek Road

 
CALAVERAS COUNTY, CA (March 28, 2023) — Savannah Cooper faces DUI charges in a fatal accident on Highway 49 near Deer Creek Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly two-vehicle crash happened around 4:00 p.m. Sunday. For DUI-related reasons, 18-year-old Cooper, of Angels Camp, drove onto the dirt shoulder and lost control of her 2006 Ford F-150. Subsequently, her car traveled into the opposing lane where it struck a 2017 Ford Escape, driven by 65-year-old Russell Webster. Cooper’s car then rolled over.
 
As a result of the crash, Russell Webster, 52-year-old Rachel Webster, a 13-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy suffered a range of injuries. The 13-year-old girl died at Mark Twain Medical Center. Meanwhile, Russel Webster and the two surviving children received care at UC Davis Medical Center in Davis and Rachel Webster sought care at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
 
Following the crash, traffic investigators learned that Cooper was under the influence at the time and arrested her before taking her to a hospital. Her 17-year-old passenger suffered unknown injuries, as well.
