16-Year-Old Dies in Pleasanton Multi-Car Crash on 580 Freeway

 
PLEASANTON, CA (December 21, 2021) — A 16-year-old died in a multi-car accident on the 580 Freeway near Hopyard Road on Sunday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal three-vehicle crash happened around 2:35 a.m. For unknown reasons, a vehicle with a 16-year-old boy crashed and became disabled.
 
Subsequently, a second car crashed into the disabled vehicle, later drawing a third driver to the scene who did not notice the cars.
 
After the third car struck the vehicles at freeway speeds, the first car became engulfed in flames and caused fatal injuries to the 16-year-old male passenger.
 
Due to the nature of the crash, officers closed all eastbound lanes of the 580 Freeway. At this time, police have not released the victim’s name and the liabilities. However, an ongoing investigation should reveal more details.
