Teen Dead in Motorcycle Crash on Highway 49 near Chicken Ranch Road

JAMESTOWN, CA (November 23, 2022) — A 16-year-old boy from Modesto died in a motorcycle accident on Highway 49 near Saturday, November 19.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The teen rode a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle north Highway 49 south of Chicken Ranch Road. He traveled at around 60 to 70 mph.

The teen was directly behind a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup driven by 27-year-old Bryce Hendren of Copperopolis. The motorcyclist attempted to pass the pickup on the right by traveling on the dirt shoulder of the highway. However, he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed.

The impact ejected the teen from the motorcycle and then hit the pickup. He sustained major injuries and died at the crash site. His identity was not immediately available.

CHP said the motorcyclist wore a helmet. In addition, they do not suspect alcohol and drugs as factors in the crash.

Hendren and his passenger, Starla Hendren, did not sustain any injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
