Teen Passenger Dies after SUV Overturns on 5 Freeway in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 23, 2022) – A 16-year-old girl died in a rollover accident on 5 Freeway in San Diego on Friday afternoon, August 19.
 
The fatal accident happened around 1:45 p.m. just south of Rosecrans Street near Old Town. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 53-year-old Kansas woman was driving a Nissan SUV when she lost control for unknown reasons.
 
The SUV then veered off the freeway and overturned, ejecting the female teen passenger.
 
Paramedics rushed the teen to a trauma center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her name was withheld pending family notification.
 
The driver of the Nissan and a second passenger, described only as male, were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
 
The cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation
