Teen Julianna Abballo Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver Anthony Smith in Camino

 
CAMINO, CA (February 11, 2022) – A 14-year-old girl was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Carson Road in Placerville on Tuesday afternoon.
 
A GoFundMe account identified the young victim as Julianna Abballo. Donations collected will go to offset funeral costs, provide counseling services and other needs of the family.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:15 p.m. on February 8 just east of Barkley Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Abballo was walking east on the shoulder of Carson Road when a newer model white Honda CR-V driving west struck her.
 
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Anthony Baron Smith of Pollock Pines, allegedly kept driving and left Abballo behind.
 
Officers arrived and pronounced Abballo dead at the scene.
 
Police located Smith and his car later that day. After that, police booked him into the El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. In addition, police charged Smith with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.
 
At this time, an investigation is underway. The CHP asked anyone with information is asked to call the California Highway Patrol at 916-861-1300.
