13-Year-Old Boy Killed in Off-Road Crash near Old Highway 111 in Imperial County

 
IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA (January 2, 2023) — A 13-year-old boy died in an off-road accident near Old Highway 111 and Evan Hewes Highway.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal solo-vehicle crash happened around 11:33 a.m. on December 27. For unknown reasons, the 13-year-old boy who was operating a 2018 Can-Am eastbound on a private dirt lot lost control. As a result, the vehicle overturned and ejected him.
 
His 14-year-old passenger escaped the crash with no injuries.
 
At this time, investigators do not suspect impairment to have played a factor. Although, they did learn that neither occupant was wearing a helmet and the 14-year-old was the only one with a seatbelt.
 
The crash remains under investigation. Although, if anyone has more to add to this case, please call the CHP.
