Juvenile Sustains Critical Injuries after Hit by Car on Laguna Boulevard while Riding His Bicycle without Helmet

 
ELK GROVE, CA (May 23, 2023) – A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured in a bicycle accident at Laguna Boulevard and Bruceville Road in Elk Grove on Tuesday last week.
 
The accident happened around 1:35 p.m. on May 16. According to the Elk Grove Police Department, the juvenile was riding his bicycle eastbound along the fifth lane shoulder area on Laguna Boulevard without a helmet and entered the intersection against a red light.
 
A car traveling northbound on Bruceville Road also entered the intersection on a green light. The bicycle then hit the car on its driver’s side.
 
As a result, the juvenile suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
 
The involved driver stayed on scene and cooperated with police.
 
Authorities said alcohol or drugs did not play a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
 
When riding a bicycle, make sure you wear cycling gear and equipment that will make you more visible. If there is a bike lane, ride in that lane. Also, make sure the driver sees you to avoid unexpected accidents.
