11-Year-Old Girl Dies, Mom Hurt After Train Crashes Into Vehicle on Alabama Street in Redlands
REDLANDS, CA (April 6, 2023) — An 11-year-old girl was killed after a train hit a car on Alabama Street near Redlands Boulevard.
According to authorities, the fatal train accident happened Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. For unknown reasons, a woman and her 11-year-old girl were stopped on the tracks at Alabama Street north of Redlands Boulevard. A Metrolink train operator, traveling about 50 miles per hour, applied the brakes but did not stop the train in time.
The impact ejected the child from the car and she perished at the scene. Her mother suffered major injuries in the accident.
Four people on board the Metrolink train appeared okay, despite a passenger who complained of pain.
At this time, authorities do not have the name of the 11-year-old girl, only describing her as a student in the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District. Authorities plan to look into how the car wound up on the railroad tracks and verify that all safety signals were working properly.
In addition, they plan to look into impairment as a factor. If anyone would like to add to the investigation, please call Cpl. Martin Gonzalez at [email protected].
