Kevin Velasquez Detained after Lompoc DUI Crash that Killed 1-Year-Old Child

 
LOMPOC, CA (August 15, 2021) – A 1-year-old child was killed and police arrested Kevin Alvarado-Velasquez after a DUI crash in Lompoc Thursday night.
 
The crash happened around 6:15 p.m. on August 12, in the 1400 block of West Chestnut Avenue. According to the Lompoc Police Department, an off-highway vehicle (OHV), driven by the 24-year-old suspect, had crashed for unknown reasons.
 
Responding officers discovered that the child had been ejected from the vehicle and suffered major injuries. Paramedics rushed the child to local hospital, where the victim later died.
 
Police arrested Velasquez for gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing great bodily injury and child abuse causing death.
 
The crash is still under investigation. Police asked anyone with further information to call them at 805-736-2341.
