1 Person Dies in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on 5th Street in Eureka

 
EUREKA, CA (March 6, 2023) — One person died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on 5th Street and K Street.
 
According to reports, the fatal hit-and-run happened on March 4 around 7:00 a.m. A pedestrian tried crossing 5th Street in a marked crosswalk but an oncoming vehicle, described as a white Lincoln MKZ, struck the victim. The driver fled the scene immediately traveling eastbound on 5th Street without helping the pedestrian.
 
Moments later, a bystander found the pedestrian and contacted authorities and paramedics who rushed to the scene to transport the seriously injured victim to St. Joseph Hospital. However, despite efforts to save the victim, medics pronounced the individual dead.
 
Authorities are searching for the vehicle and driver involved. They believe the car has a sun or moonroof and driver’s side front-end damage. If anyone has information surrounding this fatal crash, please call the Eureka Police Department Communications Center at 707-441-4044.
