Fatal 6-Car Pileup on 880 Freeway in Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (August 16, 2022) — One person died in a 6-car pileup on the 880 Freeway near 66th Avenue on Monday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-vehicle collision happened around 2:57 a.m. For unknown reasons, a driver rear-ended another vehicle, subsequently ejecting the person in the impacted car onto the road.
 
Soon after, a third car ran over the person who was ejected. However, that third driver fled the scene.
 
Not long after, a fourth driver attempted to swerve to avoid the first crash but ended up crashing, before a fifth vehicle ran over the deceased victim on the road. At some point during the crash, a sixth car became involved.
 
Authorities and paramedics responded to the scene and closed the southbound lanes near the Coliseum for several hours for the investigation.
 
At the time, officials have not released the victim’s name and information on the hit-and-run suspect who fled. However, if anyone has more information on this accident, please call the CHP.
