Fatal Car Accident Involving Union Pacific Train on San Fernando Road in Atwater Village
ATWATER VILLAGE, CA (July 26, 2021) – One person died in a train and car accident on San Fernando Road, Tuesday evening.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the incident happened on July 20, at about 9:30 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a Union Pacific train hit a vehicle in the area of 5331 San Fernando Road near Wilson Avenue.
The impact of the collision trapped one person inside the wrecked vehicle. Emergency responders later pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the name and age of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
As per reports, the accident prompted the closure of the train tracks in both directions.
LAFD continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
