Fatal Oceanside Single-Car Accident on 5 Freeway

 
OCEANSIDE, CA (April 27, 2022) — One person died in a solo-car crash on the 5 Freeway near Wire Mountain Road on Monday afternoon.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. For unknown reasons, a driver of a gray Jeep Cherokee SUV veered off the southbound freeway. Subsequently, the car left the southbound side as it struck the center divider, crossed the northbound lanes and hit a tree near Harbor Drive.
 
Due to the significant impact, one passenger suffered fatal injuries.
 
Following the incident, paramedics responded to the scene and brought the driver and another passenger to a Mission Hospital in Orange County.
 
At this time, authorities do not know the leading cause of this solo-car crash. However, an ongoing investigation should confirm if speed, distracted driving or DUI factors into this crash.
