1 Dead, Metrolink Train Hits Vehicle near Raymer Street in Sun Valley

 
SUN VALLEY, CA (May 17, 2023) — One person died after a Metrolink train hit a car near Raymer Street and Coldwater Canyon Avenue.
 
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fatal accident happened around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. Under unclear circumstances, a driver in what appeared to be a blue car was hit by an oncoming Metrolink train. The Metrolink train involved in the accident stopped roughly a quarter of a mile down the tracks.
 
Subsequently, firefighters responded and tried to extricate the driver of the vehicle. However, the unidentified victim passed away at the scene.
 
According to Metrolink, among the 54 passengers on board the train, none of them reported any injuries. The train was headed to Moorpark from downtown Los Angeles when the accident happened.
 
Investigators do not know if the driver had stopped in between the railroad crossing gates or if the gates malfunctioned. However, authorities will look into this deadly incident from all angles to identify the true cause. If any witnesses can help the authorities, please contact the Los Angeles police.
