Police Arrest Jamal McCoy after Fleeing Scene of Fatal Moreno Valley Crash
MORENO VALLEY, CA (May 26, 2021) – One person died and Jamal McCoy was arrested in a hit-and-run crash late Tuesday evening, May 25.
The fatal crash happened around 11:47 p.m. near the intersection of Iris Avenue and Camino Flores. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, a Toyota Camry was traveling west on Iris when it entered the intersection at Camino against a red light.
At the same time, the 21-year-old suspect was driving a BMW 325i. He was turning left from Iris, heading toward Camino when he struck the driver’s side of the Toyota, causing it to careen into a light pole and burst into flames.
After the crash, McCoy then allegedly abandoned the car and fled north on Camino Flores.
Responding fire crews extinguished the fire and found the driver and the sole occupant of the Camry dead inside. The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
Deputies later discovered McCoy as the registered owner of the BMW. They went to his home and arrested him on suspicion of felony hit and run.
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
