Police Arrest DUI Hit-and-Run Suspect after Deadly Crash on Highway 4 in Pittsburg
PITTSBURG, CA (December 15, 2022) – One person died and another one was seriously injured after a DUI hit-and-run crash on Highway 4 in Pittsburg Tuesday morning.
The fatal crash happened around 11:05 a.m. at the Railroad Avenue exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Dodge Durango was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of the highway when it hit a Honda Accord head-on. The Honda then hit a Toyota Highlander and a three-axle tanker truck.
After the crash, the Dodge driver ran from the scene, but was later arrested by Contra Costa Sheriff’s deputies on suspicion of DUI. Authorities said the driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening.
The driver of the Honda died at the scene. Their passenger suffered major injuries.
A driver and an infant in the Toyota were also taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the tanker truck was unhurt.
An investigation is ongoing.
