Wrong-Way Accident on Highway 54 in National City Sends 1 Driver to Hospital

 
NATIONAL CITY, CA (May 31, 2022) – One driver was taken to a hospital and the other was arrested after a wrong-way accident on Highway 54 in National City on Saturday evening.
 
The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. on May 28 at Highland Avenue. According to the National City Police Department, a black Mercedes was speeding up the on-ramp of Highway 54.
 
The driver attempted to exit the highway and was traveling the wrong-way when he collided with a blue Jeep Renegade which was entering the highway.
 
As a result of the crash, the driver of the Jeep suffered unspecified injuries. Paramedics took him to a hospital for proper treatment.
 
Meanwhile, police took the driver of the Mercedes into custody following a DUI test.
 
The crash is still under investigation.
