Fatal Rear-End Accident on Highway 99 near Simmerhorn Road in Galt
GALT, CA (May 20, 2022) – One person died in a rear-end accident on Highway 99, late Thursday morning on May 19.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 11:50 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, a minivan crashed into the rear of a parked tractor-trailer near Simmerhorn Road.
The impact of the crash caused the minivan to become pinned under the big rig’s trailer. As per reports, the vehicles also caught fire.
Emergency crews pronounced at least one person dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, the driver of the tractor-trailer cooperated with investigators and reportedly helped extinguish flames.
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
