Rider Killed in Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Crash on 580 Freeway in Alameda
ALAMEDA, CA (November 11, 2024) — One person died in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident on the 580 Freeway near Grant Line Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly hit-and-run happened around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday. Officers received reports about a crash involving a big rig and a motorcyclist on the eastbound lanes. Upon dispatch near the Stone Cut railroad overcrossing, police found the victim lying in the traffic lanes with severe injuries. However, the motorcyclist passed away moments later.
Officials did not release the person’s name.
According to an investigation, the driver of a gold SUV, possibly a Lexus, was driving erratically, weaving in and out of the lanes. Subsequently, it sideswiped the motorcyclist, sending the rider and the motorcycle underneath an oncoming big rig in another lane.
The big rig and gold SUV drivers momentarily stopped before leaving the scene. Now, officers need witnesses’ help in looking for the drivers involved.
